In addition to the Icehotel itself, one of the main attractions of Swedish Lapland is the sheer range of optional activities. Try your hand at some unusual and often exhilarating things to do and really experience this wonderful winter realm.
In the hands of a skilled musher, sit back and enjoy a husky sledge ride through picture-perfect scenery, the 'whoosh' of the sledge and panting of the dogs the only sounds around you. Stop for coffee and cakes by a campfire.
An Ultimate Husky Sledge Tour
This adventurous day in the wilderness gives you an insight into the life of a musher. Choose to mush yourself or opt to be a passenger. Please note that mushers and passengers take a different route. In a wilderness lodge, you all enjoy lunch together (included) and later visit the dog kennels.
Overnight Husky Adventure
After instructions on how to mush your own team of huskies, take the reins yourself through the beautiful snowy landscape to a wilderness camp. Enjoy a sauna and dinner before settling down for the night. Here you are perfectly situated should the aurora appear so be sure to check the night sky.
Transfer by Husky Sledge from the airport
Travel through snow-clad forest and arrive in style at the ICEHOTEL by sledge (max 4 per sledge), pulled by eager canine companions. You can also book your return transfer to the airport by sledge (max 3 per sledge).
Northern Lights Husky Safari
Through the quiet night forest, the sledge glides over sparkling snow in the glow of the moonlight. Wrapped up warm, enjoy the silence and keep watch for the northern lights which may dance overhead.
Northern Lights Snowmobile Tour
Search for the northern lights on this guided snowmobile trip (sightings cannot be guaranteed). Drive through pristine forests, traverse a frozen lake and glide past the Icehotel sparkling under the stars. At a wilderness hut enjoy a traditional dinner (usually smoked salmon sandwich, moose soup, apple cake, tea/coffee or hot lingonberry juice). Third party insurance is included (self-risk excess SEK 8000). Drivers must hold a valid driving licence.
Northern Lights Tour on Horseback
At the farm meet your Icelandic horse, become familiarised then saddle up and ride out through the silent snow-clad forest under the moon, stars and, with luck, the northern lights. Look out for moose too. Enjoy dinner back at the farm in a traditional Sami hut. It is recommended that participants have some previous riding experience. Min age 12, max weight 90 kg.
Northern Lights Chase by Minibus
This excursion only goes ahead if conditions are unsuitable for seeing the northern lights at the Icehotel. If this is the case, a minibus will take you further afield to where there is a higher chance of clear skies. To be booked locally at the Icehotel up to 19.00 on the day of departure. Minimum 2, maximum 8 participants.
Wilderness Snowmobile Tour
After a short briefing, head off with your guide and feel like a local as you whizz through a Christmas-card landscape. En route enjoy a traditional Swedish fika (coffee break). Third party insurance is included (self-risk excess SEK 8000). Drivers must hold a valid driving licence.
Moose Safari by Snowmobile
Travel deep into the heart of the pasture by minibus and snowmobile to wait for moose to appear. Often they can be seen grazing nearby and the guide is careful not to disturb them (sightings cannot be guaranteed). This trip is operated in co-operation with Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and the ICEMOOSE project. Lunch is included. Third party insurance is included (self-risk excess SEK 8000). Drivers must hold a valid driving licence. Riders may have to share a snowmobile. Limited to 8 spaces.
Overnight Snowmobile Tour
Aimed at those with more snowmobile experience, explore deeper into the forested landscape and stay overnight at a wilderness camp where facilities are basic and everyone lends a hand – bring your team spirit! Third party insurance is included (self-risk excess SEK 8000). Drivers must hold a valid driving licence.
Walk into the forested surrounds of the Icehotel where you can try your hand at cross-country skiing in the specially made tracks. Meanwhile your guide gets the camp fire and welcome hot drinks ready.
A short walk from the Icehotel and you're in the surrounding forest. After a briefing, try snowshoe walking in the deep snow, whilst a camp fire and hot drinks are prepared by your guide.
Reindeer Sledging in the Sami Camp - Raidu
A chance to get a glimpse of the rich Sami culture - travel to the Sami Camp in Jukkasjarvi on a sledge pulled by snowmobile; learn how to feed reindeer calves and drive a reindeer sledge; taste some traditional Sami food in a lavvu (tent).
Reindeer Sled Excursion - Vuojan
Through stunning Lapland forest, experience the thrill of driving your own reindeer sledge. Head back to camp, learn how to feed your reindeer and try some traditional Sami food for lunch. Not suitable for children under 8 years of age. You must be 16 years old to drive your own reindeer.

At the riding stables, meet your eager Icelandic horse. After an introduction, saddle up and head out into the snow-laden trees glistening in the winter sun. Keep your eyes peeled for moose - they shouldn't be too hard to find as they're not scared of the horses. Back at the farm have lunch. This is for those wanting a real adrenalin rush! Hone your driving skills under the supervision of a skilled instructor then head out onto a specially designed track and test the car and your abilities at up to 100km/hour. Two drivers plus two passengers (on back seat) per vehicle. Subject to weather conditions.
Try your hand at ice sculpting, guided by an expert, often someone involved with the building or decoration of the Icehotel. This is a really absorbing activity for all the family (over the age of 12) that will surprise and delight.
Starlit Dinner at the Wilderness Camp
Experience the peace and tranquillity and picture-perfect forest at the remote wilderness camp. With luck the northern lights may make an appearance whilst you enjoy a three course dinner.
