All of our holidays to Swedish Lapland offer excellent opportunities for viewing the aurora and next winter is predicted by scientists as being one of the best aurora seasons in many years due to a 'solar maximum'.
The ICEHOTEL offers a range of exciting northern lights excursions which we recommend pre-booking to ensure you don’t miss out. And just 90 minutes
drive from the Icehotel, Abisko Sky Station is famed for being one of best places in the world to view the aurora borealis. Due to its location
in the middle of the auroral zone and it’s virtually cloud free skies, conditions for viewing the northern lights are exceptional here.
And with the peak of the Solar Maximum cycle approaching, this winter is an ideal time to visit with increased chances of witnessing the aurora expected! Combine a visit to Abisko with two nights at the ICEHOTEL to increase your chances of catching the magical northern lights.
NASA has recently announced their prediction of a double peak ‘Solar Max’ in late 2013 and again in 2015, so the coming winter seasons are likely to offer some absolutely spectacular aurora displays.

Please remember that sightings of the northern lights can never be guaranteed, even when the conditions seem just right - a clear cloudless night is essential and for the most intense sightings, it is important to be away from any sources of artificial light, such as street lighting. Sightings not only vary in intensity but in duration too, from just minutes to sometimes hours.
The latest research from NASA
indicates a double peak 'Solar Max' improving your chances of seeing the aurora this year.
"We went up the chair lift to the sky station to wait for the Northern Lights and saw an amazing display, couldn't have asked for anything more."
